Estimator – Bespoke Joinery – Bradford

Job Overview

Hurst Joinery Projects is seeking an experienced Estimator to support the continued growth of our bespoke joinery division.

Operating from our 80,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Bradford, we work with main contractors, developers and consultants across the UK, delivering bespoke joinery packages, doorsets and specialist joinery solutions for workplace, retail, leisure, education and student accommodation.

Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, this role will focus on the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates, supporting tender submissions and contributing to the successful conversion of opportunities into secured projects. The successful candidate will play a key role within the pre-construction team, ensuring all estimates align with company standards, commercial objectives and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documentation to fully understand project requirements.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for bespoke joinery packages.
  • Obtain, review and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure best value and compliance with specifications.
  • Ensure estimates are commercially competitive while maintaining required profit margins.
  • Work closely with design, project and commercial teams throughout the tender process.
  • Identify risks, opportunities and value engineering options within tender submissions.
  • Support the preparation, coordination and submission of tenders and associated documentation.
  • Maintain accurate pricing records, cost databases and historical project information.
  • Monitor enquiry progress and contribute to bid strategy discussions.
  • Attend internal meetings, client meetings and site visits where required.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Proven experience in an estimating role within bespoke joinery, fit-out or the wider construction sector.
  • Strong technical understanding of drawings, specifications and construction processes.
  • Ability to interpret project requirements and translate them into accurate cost plans.
  • Good knowledge of materials, finishes and manufacturing processes relevant to bespoke joinery.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating systems.
  • Understanding of procurement processes and supply chain management.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, this role will focus on identifying and securing project opportunities, developing long-term industry relationships and increasing our presence within key market sectors. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying opportunities at pre-construction stage, positioning Hurst Joinery Projects with key decision-makers and supporting the conversion of enquiries into secured orders. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with main contractors, developers, architects, designers, quantity surveyors and consultants operating within our target sectors.
  • Identify project opportunities at pre-construction, tender and procurement stages.
  • Generate and maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities through market intelligence, networking, industry engagement and client development activities.
  • Position Hurst Joinery Projects with key decision-makers prior to procurement to maximise tender opportunities.
  • Work closely with estimating, design and pre-construction teams to support tender submissions and bid strategies.
  • Maintain regular communication with prospective and existing clients throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support commercial negotiations and contribute to the successful conversion of enquiries and tenders into secured projects.
  • Manage and develop key accounts to encourage repeat business and long-term relationships.
  • Monitor construction activity, project pipelines and procurement opportunities across target sectors.
  • Provide market intelligence and client feedback to support business planning and growth strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of opportunities, client interactions and project pipelines.
  • Represent Hurst Joinery Projects professionally at client meetings and networking events.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Proven experience in a business development, commercial management, estimating, project management or client relationship role within bespoke joinery, specialist subcontracting or the wider construction sector.
  • Strong understanding of the construction supply chain, procurement routes and project lifecycle.
  • Technical knowledge of bespoke joinery and interior construction packages, with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications and project requirements.
  • Experience developing relationships with main contractors, developers, architects, designers and consultants.
  • Demonstrable success in identifying opportunities and generating project enquiries within the construction sector.
  • Commercially aware with strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage a pipeline of opportunities.
  • An established network of industry contacts would be beneficial.
  • Full UK driving licence.

We currently have a full-time, permanent vacancy for a semi-skilled Doorline Operative (Joiner) to work as part of our in-house joinery team at our manufacturing facility in Bradford.
The Role:
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be required to manufacture high-quality timber doors in a busy workshop.
You will be expected to work to strict timescales and will need to be able to work on your own initiative as well as in a team.

Skills and Experience Required:

Experience working within a production door line environment would be an advantage.
Must be capable of working to extremely high standards and to strict deadlines.
An ability to understand work from setting out drawings is essential.
Experience in laminating & veneering would be an advantage.
Must adhere to company health and safety guidelines.

The Role:

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be required to manufacture high-quality bespoke joinery items, both modern and traditional, in a busy workshop.

You will be expected to work to strict timescales and will need to be able to work on your own initiative as well as in a team.

Skills and Experience Required:

Fully time served, experienced, high-quality bench hand joiners or cabinet makers will be ideal for this role.

Previous experience in office or shop fit-outs is advantageous.

Must be capable of working to extremely high standards and to strict deadlines.

An ability to understand work from setting out drawings is essential.

Experience in laminating & veneering would be beneficial.
